Jetsons: Garbage In, Garbage Out

I did this for The Flintstones and the Jetsons #2 sometime in September 1997, one of the first Hanna-Barbera/DC stories I did.

The cover is kind of an inside joke. At the time, Bill Alger was living in Dallas and had a day job working on Barney. Photobucket Most of you are familiar with Ivan Brunetti, known more now for things like teaching and New Yorker covers. I haven't corresponded with him in a few years, but I know he's embarrassed by much of his earlier work. But I hope saying so will that may redeem that, though. This isn't a showcase for other current cartoonists, though, it's about me. Before using the style he uses now, he also did some work on the Hanna-Barbera titles before going on to bigger and better things. A lot of it was done with the assistance of a fellow named Thad Doria. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Yogi Bear

Back in the 1990's when I had free reign over the Hanna-Barbera characters (within reason) I wrote this Yogi Bear story for DC's Cartoon Network Presents

The story, drawn by Bill Alger, comes from the second issue in September 1997. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Next week: The Jetsons

Quick Draw McGraw

As far as I know, this cartoon is still being aired despite having an ethnic stereotype. Although this cartoon will run for years to come, it will always be more famous for Howard Stern making fun of his producer's pronunciation, which he has been doing since I was in high school.

The idea here is that since Quick Draw had a Mexican sidekick, there would be other Quick Draws of other nationalities. This story, drawn by Bill Alger, was printed in Cartoon Network Presents #6 in January 1998. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Dastardly and Muttley In Their Flying Machines

I wrote a couple Wacky Races stories during my tenure writing the DC/Cartoon Network/Hanna-Barbera titles. One has all the characters in a story I'll post sometime in the future. If I had wrote more stories, I might have proposed solo stories of the Wacky Races characters. The series was a showcase for series in development at the time. One of the things that did make it to its own show was Dastardly and Muttley In Their Flying Machines (which some erroneously call Stop The Pigeon) which I wrote a story for.

This is from Cartoon Network Presents #7 in February 1998 Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket An anecdote I forgot to mention on previous posts was that a potential writer was asked to do a Scooby-Doo script, but had never seen the series and was told to watch one to get a gist of the characters. She wrote a story with David Cassidy thinking he was one of the recurring characters in the cartoon. When you're six, you don't know the celebrities that made appearances are actual people, but it's weird when you're an adult.

The Twiddle Method

Another story I wrote for DC Comics' Cartoon Network line when they didn't have as much original programming. Sometimes they'd showcase something like Powerpuff Girls or Cow and Chicken but mostly the older Hanna-Barbera characters.

I was always pitching stories with the lesser-known characters. They had all sorts of series of animals trying to be like people. One story I did was one of all the exasperated middle-age male masters getting together to share their problems.

This is from Cartoon Network Presents #3 in October 1997. I didn't write the cover. Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket
