David Does It

I did 7 pages for an anthology, and they had to cut the page count, which meant losing some of these pages. Here's another story that was meant for it.

Here's the seventeenth issue we did, minus the cover and the David Speaks Out comic I posted a few months ago. I forgot how much we stole from other comics and cartoons. See if you can spot them all.

One of the good things about not making many copies is we could write each person's name individually, like in the last panel here.

Since it was a back-to-school theme, I decided to do the story on notebook paper with its "teeth", round corners and everything showing. It didn't really matter since everyone thought we drew on lined paper anyway.





Astute readers might say we took this from "Sparky Sperm" by Crumb, and they'd be right.


We decided to have some guest artists who also did mini-comics like us do their take on our characters. This one is by Doug Holverson.

I was looking through a bunch of boxes today looking for things to throw out and I came across even more comics from my childhood people would only care about if they were already familiar with my current work. There was this kid David we used to draw all the time and make fun of for practicing karate, which we called ju-jitsu just to annoy him. I saw him recently at our high school reunion and he actually has some drawings I did of him that I don't remember.
