Hello Buddies

This was a magazine for servicemen in the 40s and 50s published by Harvey Comics. It was mostly gag cartoons but occasionally had some comics. Here are some examples:

This was a filler strip in lots of Harvey's comics titles so I'm assuming it was reprinted from one of them. This is taken from #51 in October 1951.
March 1944. Cartoon by Al Ross.
Same issue. Artist unknown.
Winter 1950, Frank Beaven
Same issue, reprinted from Black Cat #10 in 1948. Art by Lee Elias.
June 1952
Summer 1954
Al Ross, May 1955

Dick Tracy #67

Harvey Comics would compile Dick Tracy, at one time one of the most popular comic strips in the country. You can tell these were the daily strips by the extra space every few panels. This was issue #67 from September 1953.

Flip #1, 2 of 2

The rest of Harvey Comics' fly-by-night attempt to cash in on the parody genre. Every publisher seemed to have one (this one came out in April 1954) and they all came around the same time and lasted two to five issues.

The first story by Howard Nostrand is influenced by V-Vampires in Mad #3. Nostrand had a knack for drawing in the style of other artists but did so without swiping anything directly from the stories.
This and the next story are by Bob Powell . Between him and Howard Nostrand, they did many of Harvey's titles entirely by themselves.

Flip #1, 1 of 2

This was Flip,Harvey Comics' entry into the parody genre. The first issue here was published in April 1954. I previously posted the second issue, the only other one, a few years ago.

The cover and first story are drawn by Howard Nostrand.
Not sure who drew this, though.
