Magic Whistle Radio Hour 150

Things I've collected over the years or acquired on mixtapes and comps or gathered from the internet or the library or my parents' attic. The different sources are the reason for the volume disparity. I make no claims to "discovering" or "owning" anything. Probably neither do you. It's whatever I feel like playing that week. Every Saturday. No repeats. Things that may or may not be familiar. Who knows? The time's next to each song in case you don't like something or it's icky or if you don't want your kids to hear it. Don't let offense at one song cloud your impression of the curation as a whole Past weeks here too. Just type "Audio" in the search engine. Or if you're too lazy to press a button more than once, here's everything up to July 2017. You don't get the all playlists, though. You can right-click this if you want to save a zip file of this one (containing an mp3 of the file) for later. Here what information I was able to find:

0:00 ANN FAITH- South Jersey Stomp
from LP Sing Along with Jonathan and Darlene Edwards (1962)
”Truly great artists are always sensitive to the constant changing tastes of the public in matters musical, and no sooner does a rumor reach them then they act immediately. Recently, at a level possibly described as “sub-grass-roots”, there has developed a modest taste in “Sing Along”--the phenomenon in which a group supposedly sings to the accompaniment of another group of people who have made a phonograph record simple enough to be sung to, While Jonathan and Darlene Edwards are fully aware that their public is too sophisticated to indulge in such musical nonsense, they feel strongly that these 'others' should not be denied the opportunity to SING ALONG WITH JONATHAN AND DARLENE. The Edwards' style of music would just naturally make 'singing along' so much more a fun thing than the style currently available.
”Therefore, the Edwards—enthusiastic and uninhibited as always—offer this album, complete with a Sing Along gang plus the distinctive piano artistry of Jonathan and the never-to-be forgotten vocal stylings of Darlene. It's all there: the confident yet unpredictable pianist—one moment playing true ragtime, and then, in an instant, switching to a baffling interpolation in truly classical style. And this indescribable singer—stimulated to new vocal heights by the most enthusiastically exciting Sing Along Gang ever recorded. Her contribution is highlighted by her remarkable obbligatos which the listeners must realize were improvised on the spot!
“We invite you—in fact we challenge you—to Sing Along with Jonathan and Darlene. If there seem to be a few added beats from time to time, don't be discouraged, and don't blame the record, but rather your own lack of imagination. Repeated playings will soon convince you that you are hearing these songs presented for perhaps the very first time. The album can now enable the growing little group of Sing Along addicts to join forces with the huge army of sophisticated Jonathan and Darlene fans, and to indulge in a wild sing along orgy—a national “gang-sing” too terrible to contemplate!”

4:07 WENDY POWERS- Auctioneer Lover (1958)
6:12 KAY MARTIN & HER BODYGUARDS- I'm the Hunter,You're the Tiger
from LP Kay Martin in Las Vegas (c. 1970)

“Kay has been on numerous magazine covers and has had spreads in Playboy and Adam magazines.”
