Bert the Turtle

Probably everyone's seen the Bert the Turtle civil service cartoon, that epitome of fifties camp. There was also a comic to go along with it. I remember there being civil defense drills as late as 1980.

    These illustrations are snazzy! I laughed when I saw the bottom panel of page 2. Bert's not really helping, is he? It's more like he's just mocking that other guy. The guy would probably be happy if Bert would just quit it.
