CRACKED # 137

You see, because Sylvester P. Smythe is about to poke Mr. Kotter in the penis!

Actually, I don't think that was the intent. But here's a look into the lens of popular culture back in November 1976.

First is the cover story for this issue of Cracked by John Severin. photo 4-3-1_zpscafd0544.jpg Then the story itself. As mentioned before, in the seventies Cracked was their parodying then-current movies and TV multiple times, in this case Welcome Back, Kotter. photo 4-3-2_zps1eef8076.jpg Bill Ward photo 4-3-3_zps24e8d791.jpg Bill DuBay photo 4-3-4_zps8934cedb.jpg As I mentioned last week, around this time they were always trying to sell copies by using The Fonz whenever they could. photo 4-3-5_zps7fa85577.jpg More humor about the Bicentennial from Don Orehek photo 4-3-6_zps2db6a44f.jpg photo 4-3-7_zps758d1e6f.jpg The Fonz appears in this parody of beach party movies. photo 4-3-8_zps1c07e042.jpg photo 4-3-9_zps8c6bc65b.jpg Reprinted from issue 84. photo 4-3-10_zpsf137edd9.jpg photo 4-3-11_zpsd5fc24da.jpg photo 4-3-12_zps2ecb7237.jpg photo 4-3-13_zpsecc709f6.jpg Michael Ricigliano photo 4-3-14_zpsafa5f0e4.jpg Continuing with their exploitation of The Fonz, the inside back cover had a T-shirt iron-on. This is a flip of that image. photo 4-3-15_zpsba7d4773.jpg photo 4-3-16_zps7696ed43.jpg

The Loan Arranger and other stuff

I thought I'd post the remainder of the issues of GOOSE I have xeroxes of. These are from issues 2 and 3 in 1976 or so and done anonymously.

It was kind of like MAD except dirty. I think it was people who worked on magazines like CRAZY and SICK letting off steam.

Normally I don't appreciate self-parody. Sometimes it can be funny, I just don't like the idea of it. This is sort of interesting though. Here's a parody of THEY'LL DO IT EVERY TIME by Al Scaduto, the artist of that strip. I picture him thinking of the strip "the way I'd really like to do it".

Now that you're done with that, please take our survey.

crisis averted/Richie Rich

I said I wouldn't be able to upload images because they were all in my main computer which was broken. I also said I wouldn't be able to bring my laptop when I go to the hospital next week. Both things proved not to be true. I got my computer fixed quicker than I thought and I have computer access while I'm away. Lucky, lucky you.

GOOSE

I have copies in storage but I couldn't get to them. It's not particularly good but I needed to at least show it exists. Luckily Mike Sullivan was able to send me copies. It was an imitation of MAD with the usual 52 b/w pages except that it was dirty. It kind of reminds me of Flesh Gordon in that the only people it would appeal to would be too young to read it.

There are no names on the masthead but I think it was edited by Paul Laikin who worked on other kiddie humor magazines. I say this because it had the same artists that presumably worked cheap. Ironically, the art, like this HAPPY DAYS parody by Tony Tallarico, is better than what they normally did.

This Disney parody from GOOSE #3 by Al Scaduto looks like it was inspired by the oft-bootlegged Disneyland Memorial Orgy by Wally Wood with the instructions to go further.

Mike also sent me copies of GLAD, a Christian MAD that makes Davey and Goliath look secular by comparison
