NEW YORK on Wacky Packages
Google Books hasn't quite achieved their goal of scanning every publication ever made, something about copyright issues or something like that. Even with restrictions, there are still plenty of gems. Besides lots of public domain material taken from regional libraries, there are a few that have co-operated in agreeing to let their books be used, there are lots of complete runs of magazines, so you can find Life's “Draw Lena the Hyena” contest, the Harrison Cady covers for Boys' Life, or the complete run of Spy. Out of everything they have, I'm choosing to showcase New York's articles on Wacky Packages and Mad from their October 1, 1973 issue. I'll look for magazines that had gag cartoons if I can find them.

To paraphrase..."Mad is too important to be taken seriously!"
ReplyDeleteAt it's best, at it's truly satirical, whatever it did was above judgement or reproach.
Bill Gaines for God, I say. :)
