That issue of BLACK CAT was the first pre-code horror book I ever bought (for $8.00, I think). I got it in Charlotte, NC at a Heroes Mini-Con in either 1981 or '82, and to while away the time on our 2 1/2 hour car ride home, my buddy Jerry and I produced impromptu "Radio plays" of this and a stack of romance books I'd gotten from a quarter box, although for the latter, we switched the genders of all the characters' voices (to enhance the laffs). In retrospect, I don't know why Jerry's mother didn't put us out of the car at a rest stop and let us walk home.
